The Coolest Trip Ever

In 2012 I had the opportunity to take the most amazing trip.

Destination: North Korea

Oh, and I also visited Japan, China, and South Korea.

Why? I joined the PSI Asian-Pacific Summer Institute as a faculty member for the 2012 Pyongyang Summer Institute in Survey Science and Quantitative Methodology.

I was in North Korea for 10 day. I taught courses for a week and spent two weekends seeing various locations in North Korea. We stayed at the international university in the capital city of Pyongyang.

We could move around freely on campus and had guides with us for weekend tours.

One weekend we saw beautiful countryside and parks north of the capital city and the other weekend was a tour of the demiliarized zone (DMZ) on the border with South Korea.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the trip:

Personal

I am proud to call East Nashville my home. It’s the best neighborhood on the planet.

Yes there really is a Kalamazoo. It’s where I’m from.

I nerd out over:

  • Renovating my home
  • Ice skating
  • Weight lifting
  • The tv show Chuck
  • Traveling (I’ve been to 5 continents & over 30 countries)
  • Data visualization
  • Structural Equation Models
  • Lake Michigan
